Welcome to The Knaresborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce Website
Explore Knaresborough.co.uk is a website used to promote Members of the Knaresborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
Knaresborough is steeped in history which goes back to about the 5th century AD. There has been a market here since at least Norman times and Knaresborough was granted a Royal Charter in 1310 to hold a market every Wednesday. Complete with a market cross, ruined Norman castle and fantastic views over the Nidd Gorge.
Rich in history, Knaresborough has plenty to entertain visitors of all ages. Explore the remains of the Norman castle and visit the dungeons and castle museum, take a boat trip on the river or visit Mother Shipton’s Cave – with its fascinating petrifying well. There are manywalks to enjoy around Knaresborough with attractions to see such as the ‘house in the rock’ and the oldest chemist shop in England which was opened in 1720.
The town centre has a wide range of shops, cafes and pubs for visitors to enjoy.
Knaresborough is easy to reach with direct rail links from both York and Leeds and for visitors who wish to stay a little longer, the town is a great base for exploring other Yorkshire attractions such as the nearby spa town of Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales.
QUESTION to ALL KNARESBOROUGH BUSINESSES
From the Knaresborough Chamber of Trade
What does it mean to discover Knaresborough?
Or more importantly what is it about Knaresborough that makes it so popular with visitors, residents and businesses?
Could it be the unique view and its proximity to nature in all its glory, could it be exploring the independent shops and galleries, could it be the range of pubs and homely cafes in which to relax,
Or could it be the all year round calendar of events that provides leisure and pleasure for visitors and locals alike?
One thing is for sure, Knaresborough knows how to host a good time and is happy to be enjoyed throughout the year by thousands of people at work, rest or play.
That is why Knaresborough Chamber of Trade is to publish a brand new Town Guide for 2012 and why it is making space alongside adverts from local businesses to promote the groups that bring so many visitors and opportunities for Knaresborough businesses.
Literally thousands of people from near and far will use the guide and it will be widely promoted by the Tourist Information centres throughout Nidderdale as the official town publication.
The guide is called Discover Y Knaresborough and will be read by holiday makers, day trippers, the suited or booted and for the first time will be distributed direct to 5000 homes in the area.
And, it comes as no surprise that it will be the most widely looked at guide in the area simply because the fantastically busy and well supported year that Knaresborough has just had reflects the town’s growing reputation across the county as a must go-see destination.
Work has already begun on planning 2012’s events, so make a note of these key dates.

All of these events are brought to you by individual committees of experienced volunteers who plan and organize and then man and marshal on the day and who work so hard at making it all successful.
They give their time freely throughout the year for the benefit of a whole host of civic and charitable causes and of course there are plenty of opportunities for shops to benefit, from increased footfall.
The Town Council also does much unheralded work behind the scenes to support the town with practical and financial assistance.
With all this community support Knaresborough is becoming increasingly popular and throughout the heart of town there is plenty of evidence of business confidence growing as new shops open, existing ones expand and others reinvest.
Castlegate is a great example of 100% occupancy and a truly unique mix of independent businesses.
So the message from Knaresborough Chamber of Trade is simple:
The Discover Y Knaresborough guide is the place for all Knaresborough businesses to advertise, whether you are a member of the Chamber of Trade or not and given a print run of in excess of 30,000 over a period of 12 months, with extremely favourable payment terms over 5 months, why wouldn’t you?
What is it about Knaresborough? - It’s a two-way thing.
So do not delay, confirm your advert now and show your support for Knaresborough’s business community in the best possible place.
