Welcome to The Knaresborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce Website
Explore Knaresborough.co.uk is a website used to promote Members of the Knaresborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
Knaresborough is steeped in history which goes back to about the 5th century AD. There has been a market here since at least Norman times and Knaresborough was granted a Royal Charter in 1310 to hold a market every Wednesday. Complete with a market cross, ruined Norman castle and fantastic views over the Nidd Gorge.
Rich in history, Knaresborough has plenty to entertain visitors of all ages. Explore the remains of the Norman castle and visit the dungeons and castle museum, take a boat trip on the river or visit Mother Shipton’s Cave – with its fascinating petrifying well. There are many walks to enjoy around Knaresborough with attractions to see such as the ‘house in the rock’ and the oldest chemist shop in England which was opened in 1720.
The town centre has a wide range of shops, cafes and pubs for visitors to enjoy.
Knaresborough is easy to reach with direct rail links from both York and Leeds and for visitors who wish to stay a little longer, the town is a great base for exploring other Yorkshire attractions such as the nearby spa town of Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales.
